Practice Signal is being built. Accounts are not open yet, and we are starting with behavioral health practices in Minnesota. Coming: not available yet
Insurer rate benchmarks for independent clinics and the people who do their billing
Where your rates sit, on the insurers' own record.
Practice Signal is being built to show insurance reimbursement rates for therapists in Minnesota, read from the files insurers must publish each month. You will see what each insurer pays practices near you for the services you bill, with the filing and its date under every figure.
Your email opens with a subject line filled in. Please do not send rates, contracts, payment statements or patient details.
Plans will start at $199 a year for two insurers of your choice. Coming: not available yet Compare plans

Name your practice and we answer in plain words, insurer by insurer, from the rates each one filed for it. No figures and no account.
Decisions you make, with the facts in one place
Practice Signal does not make these decisions for you. It puts the facts in one place, each with its source.

What you see, and where it comes from
Each line says where the figure comes from. Lines marked Coming are still being built.
- Practices in your area, with the area named. You are compared with practices near you first. Where too few are nearby, the area widens and the screen names the area it used.
- Never an estimate. Every figure is read from an insurer's own filing and names the file and its date. Where there is no filing, the screen says so.
- Your own filed rate beside theirs. Where an insurer files a rate for your practice, you see it next to practices near you, code by code, without typing anything in.
- Every month kept. Each month's filing is kept, so you can watch the market move instead of seeing one snapshot. Coming: not available yet
- Named practices where the market is large enough. Where enough practices file, you see which practices sit at the top and bottom of the range. Where too few do, we say so. Coming: not available yet
- Compared at your license level. You will see practices whose clinicians hold the same license level as yours. Coming: not available yet
The benchmark, drawn in words
This is the shape of the contract benchmark. Your account shows figures where this example shows words.
| Service | Setting | Your filed rate | Practices near you | Where you sit | Practices compared |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Psychotherapy, one hour | In the office | Figure from the insurer's file | Range from the same file | Near typical | Enough to show |
| Diagnostic evaluation | In the office | Figure from the insurer's file | Range from the same file | Slightly below typical | Enough to show |
| Family psychotherapy | In the office | Not in this insurer's file | Range from the same file | No filed rate to place | Enough to show |
| Psychotherapy, half hour | In the office | Figure from the insurer's file | Too few practices nearby | Not shown | Too few to show |
Where your filed rate falls
Your filed rate sits next to the range for practices near you, with a plain word for where it falls.
Missing figures are named
When an insurer files no rate for a code, or too few practices nearby have one, the row says so in words.
License level next Coming: not available yet
Comparison by license level is coming, so you can see practices whose clinicians hold the same license as yours.
The file and date on each row
Each row names the insurer's file and the date the insurer gave it.
How it works
Three steps from the insurers' public files to your account.
Insurers publish their rates.
Federal rules require health plans to publish the rates they pay in-network practices. The files are very large and change each month.
Practice Signal reads the files.
We read each insurer's files and find your practice and the practices near you.
You see where you sit.
Each figure shows the insurer, the billing code and the filing it came from, so you can check it yourself.
The source sits under every figure
In your account, each figure names the insurer, the file and the date the insurer gave it. If a file carries no date, the screen says which month's file it was seen in. You can check any figure against the insurer's own file.
Each month's changes, in plain words Coming: not available yet
On Pro and above, a monthly summary by email will list what changed: new insurer files, changes to your own filed rates, and new practices nearby. Email alerts on your own rates are coming too. The Insurer Report plan includes neither the emailed summary nor the alerts.
It reports what changed. It never says what to do about it.
Example monthly summary
- One of your insurers published a new file, and it was read.
- Your filed rate for an hour of office psychotherapy changed in one insurer's file.
- A practice near you now appears in another insurer's file.
Example only. In a real summary, each line links to the file it came from.
What Practice Signal never does
Some things Practice Signal will not do, by design.
- It never says what you should be paid.
- It never needs to know what you are paid. There is nowhere to enter a rate, a contract or a payment statement.
- It never shows a named clinician's rate.
- It never shares what you look at with other practices.
- It never uses patient information.
Two plans to start
Plans are billed annually. The plans page lists everything each one includes.
Before you start
Short answers. The insurer report page has more.
Where do the figures come from?
From the rate files insurers must publish under federal price transparency rules. Each figure names its file and the date on it.
Who is Practice Signal for?
Independent behavioral health practices and the people who do their billing, starting in Minnesota.
Is there a free plan?
No. Every plan is paid, and plans are billed annually. When plans open, each organization can start one fourteen-day trial, with a card added at the start. The trial shows the two insurers you choose at one license level. PDF and spreadsheet downloads and the API open with your first payment, on the plans that include them. Coming: not available yet
Will it tell me what to charge or what to accept?
No. It shows what insurers pay and where each figure comes from. The decisions stay with you.
Do I have to enter my rates or upload anything?
No. We look up your practice in the files insurers publish. There is nowhere to enter a rate, a contract or patient information.
Hear when accounts open
Send us a note and we will write when accounts open for Minnesota practices. Your practice name and city are enough.
